Aurora Aksnes' first musical memories involve finding a tiny piano hidden in the basement and bewildered by the sound it made. Jan Oystein Aksnes, her parents, May Britt Aksnes and Jan Oystein Aksnes, encouraged their daughter to take up music more as a hobby than as a job. Her parents encouraged her to compose. Bjork as well as Leonard Cohen are among her favorite writers. To counter her mother's advice that she should not be aiming to be famous through the songs she writes, but rather be aware of the significance of them and their impact on society. The piano was first played by her when she was just six and was writing her first song by the time she was nine. This was not known to her family members until she was fourteen. Aurora's success was never her goal. The only thing she loves is to write music. For her, music is the most effective means of communicating anything.
